Champions
Deathmatch Arena
Official Tournament Rules for O-CON '98
Champions Deathmatch Arena is a combat exercise designed to allow power
gamers of Champions free reign to explore mayhem in player to player combat.
Character Creation
Each player will create one (or more) characters in the following
fashion:
The GM prefers that characters be presented by email before the
event, and accepts such submissions here.
By submitting your character, you provide the GM with complete rights
to present your character in event-related information, especially the
"winners page" he intends to publish on the web...or maybe the
"losers page".... ;)
The Deathmatch
Play will be a single round, held in a free-for-all fashion. Entrants will be accepted until 30 minutes prior to close of the event, with new entrants joining the Deathmatch during post segment-12 recovery phases as they present themselves.
The Arena
The Arena is a circular area about 100 meters across, set within an indestructible cylinder of near-infinite height and depth. The cylinder is impervious to all the characters' powers including Ego powers and Teleportation. Gravity, atmosphere and temperature are Earth-normal. The "floor" is DEF 8 rock, with 8 body per hex, that goes on practically forever downwards. Both the rock and the air are restored from outside the Arena once per minute, wiping out poison gas clouds, craters, tunnels, area-effect entangles, etc during the post segment-12 recovery of every 5th turn. (Note: this is to make things easier on the GM, and to "wipe the slate clean" for new entrants - as much fun as it is for Noxious Man, we don't want his deathcloud killing people a half-hour after Strontium Girl irradiates his brains.) No one will be injured by the restoration; tunneling characters will not be returned to the surface, but buried characters will be.
Removal
Any character unconcious for "a long time" (more than five turns) will be removed during a post segment-12 recovery. Players are welcome to pummel stunned or semi-concious characters to ensure their removal, but this will not necessarily give the player credit for a "kill".
Kills
A "kill" is awarded for knocking a character unconcious or killing them. Only one "kill" is allowed per victim - if you knock Silicon Lad unconcious , you get the "kill", even if Noxious Man murders the helpless hero a few phases later. However, if you knock Silicon Lad unconcious you will lose credit for the "kill" if he recovers before being removed.
Winning
At the end of the allotted play period, the character with the most "kills" will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, the characters will win in the following order: Still Standing, Longest in Play, Removed Unconcious, Removed Dead.
Rules Lawyers/Rules Rapists
You probably wouldn't be here if you weren't one of these. Be creative, but all GM rulings are final.
Teamwork
Feel free to work together. Realize that only one of you can win.
GM's Notes
This is only marginally a role-playing event. It is a chance for people to try some really outlandish ideas ("Fall before the might of One-Trick-Pony Man!!!") and hopefully do some fun combat stuff in the Champions(-ish) universe. Note that people will be coming in (Fresh Meat!!) throughout the game - the advantage they get for being fresh while some other people in the arena are hurting will be balanced by them not getting as many targets and losing out on the "longest in play" win from above.
