I decided
to use my mother's experience, as a breast cancer survivor, as a guide.
The athletes by my feet represent my physical health, the physical health
I gain by treating breast cancer. The pictures by my head -- the rose,
smiley face, man and the cartoons -- represent the emotional health I gain
by treating breast cancer.
The pictures
on my legs represent a career or job. Work played a major role in my mother's
recovery. The pictures on my waist area represent the Lions Club and my
volunteer work. My volunteer work is very important to me.
The pictures
on my arms represent friends and family. My friends and family mean a lot
to me; I don't know what I would do without them. By treating breast cancer
I would appreciate the love of my friends and family more.
The three remaining
pictures, above my head, are very special. The clock and the hourglass
represent time. They represent all the time I would have to spend with
my family and friends, the time I would have for a career and volunteer
work. The bird, a dove, represents peace. The peace I would feel after
treating breast cancer.
These pictures
were the first that I thought of putting on the page.
I hope to show
my mother the project and hear what she thinks. I would love to hear about
the things she gained by having surgery to treat breast cancer. I think
that this project could be beneficial to any woman about to go through
breast cancer surgery. It would help her see the things that she values
and the things that she can look forward to after her surgery.
