A Cat Walking

Here we see the action of a single hind leg of a cat walking. The thigh (upper leg) does not swings as a pendulum as it does in a human. The lower line represent the very elongated foot of the cat; the cat walks on its toes with only the tip of the foot in constact with the ground on occasion. In contrast the bottom of the human foot is in complete contact with the ground on occasion during walking. I have also animated the walking human leg. I obtained the data for the cat leg from a fine project report "The stealth meower: How does a cat move like that?" from a kinesiology course at the University of Michigan. The report also has a video of the cat walking and trotting. The course has links to many other kinesiology project reports.
