The
"Blasts from the Past" show, hosted by the Wolfman and Charlie the "K"
is on WRHO, the radio voice of Hartwick College, in Oneonta NY, on Friday
(when Hartwick is in session) from 6 to 9 p.m. We play mostly oldies from
the 50s, 60s and 70s, with an occasion program featuring music from the
30s and 40s and the Wolfman plays a song from the 80s when he thinks he
can get away with it.
COMING ATTRACTIONS
. The Blasts from the Past people are currently
underemployed.
Past Events
25th Reunion of the Hartwick Class of 1979
The reunion was held at the local Holiday Inn and since the Blasts from the Past Program started in 1979 it only seemed fitting that Charlie the "K" and the Wolfman (he's the one with the beard) played the oldies from the mid to late 70s for those gathered.
Front page of the Oneonta Daily Star
It's not the "Rolling Stone" but they made it on the front page of the local newspaper for being on the air for 25 years, nice article and a picture too! And it was above the fold.
First Night in Oneonta 2003
They played the oldies at the Hartwick College Telecommunications Center on Main Street, front row seats for the parade, with refreshments and great old music to dance to.
New Years Eve 2002 & First Night in Oneonta
Once again the boys played the oldies for the New Years party goers at the Oneonta First Night Event and ParadeThingy. They set up in the basement of of the church at the corner Main and Maple Street. The basement was full of winding twisty passages but the people were friendly (when you got lost) and they had heat. Everyone had a great time. They had to miss their Halloween Dance this year so they were pumped for New Years.
Millenium Party 2001--the Real First Night
The boys
signed up for the 2001 Oneonta New Years Eve party--the real beginning
of the new millennium! (Accept no substitutes.) They played music in the
heated (yes heat) Elk's Club and the assembled masses of young and old
danced, drank hot cocoa, ate the cookies and generally had a great time.
Once again, no injuries, nobody was disgraced!
2000 Fall Weekend ; Homecoming, Reunion, & Family Weekend
On Friday
October 13, 2000 the Blasts from the Past DJs played music for the Hartwick
College Annual Alumni, Family, and Fall Weekend Festivities (or whatever
it is called these days) dinner on Frisbie Field. This was the third year
they pushed their way onto the field and played those oldies. (Maybe they
will be invited next year.) They played some great music and ate their
BBQ steak dinner. Thanks to the WRHO people for providing and setting up
the equipment.
2000 Halloween Party & Costume Display
They
had planned on having it in the atrium of that new Miller Hall addition
on campus, but for lack of heat were forced to switch to the Agora for
the festivities. They dressed as convicts, despite the move. The HOPE-Unlimited
people and the campus alcohol awareness group, Bachus (it did not make
sense to us either) sponsored along with WRHO and a group of volunteers
from across the campus. Not one but two costumes featured the transcendental
number pi! Certainly some sort of apocalyptic omen.
Millennium Party 2000 &
First
Night
On
December 31, 1999 Charlie the "K" and the Wolfman played Rock & Roll
from the 50s and 60s at Oneonta's third First Night Shin-dig at the Lutheran
Church at crash corner. A great time was had by all, and the placed emptied
out just before midnight to witness the fireworks and the disappointment
of that Y2K thing. They had heat in the building, unlike previous years,
and did so well at the decorations that they won the First Prize in the
Venue Decoration & Ambiance Category. (Charlie the "K" still does not
understand "venue.") They'll be back next year with more crepe paper and
marquee lights!
1999 Holiday Ball
Charlie
the "K" and the Wolfman were hired to play holiday music followed by olde
dance music at the December 1999 Hartwick College (they have graduated
years ago but they still keep coming back) holiday faculty and staff get-together.
1999 Halloween Dance & Costume
Parade
Halloween
costumes were in abundance at the fall classic dance. The Wolfman dressed
as a high ranking Roman senator and Charlie the "K" was the fly. Sponsored
by WRHO and HOPE Unlimited (with mocktails etc.) the place was jumpin'.
If Charlie can ever figure out how to scan the photographs there are a
few of the boys in their costumes. Curse those JPGs and Giffs; maybe next
month.
1999 Fall Weekend ; Homecoming,
Reunion, & Family Weekend
The Wolfman
&Charlie the "K" played oldies on Frisby field (it didn't rain) from
4 to 7 p.m. September 24 for the 1999 Hartwick College Homecoming, Reunion
and Family Weekend. (If the name gets any long we'll have to get a larger
computer screen to display it.) They were down-wind from the BBQ-steak-frying-smokin'-good
smelling-grills and enjoyed every minute of it. The participatain in the
Y.M.C.A. song/dance was a little thin but maybe that accounted for the
fewer injuries than the previous year. The personal highlight of the day
when when they were reunited with Karen Acker, Station Manager at WRHO
in 1979 when the boys started their radio career.
Oneonta's First Night Party
New Years Eve Dec. 31, 1998
Blasts
from the Past once again was contracted to play oldies music in the former
Rite-Aid store on Main Street for the wildest dance party presentation
of the First Night Celebration-- welcoming the New Year 1999. They played
rock 'n' roll from the 50s and 60s for dancers of all ages. The Lion's
Club had hot buttered popcorn to warm the cockles and salt the pallet.
Oneonta's own Daily Star even had a few
kind words to say about the Blasts from the Past performance (and yes,
it is a performance!) in one of their fine editorials.
1998 Homecoming
The Wolfman
&Charlie the "K" played oldies on Frisby field (it didn't rain) from
4 to 7 p.m. September 25 for the 1998 Hartwick College Homecoming, Reunion
and Family Weekend. They were down-wind from the BBQ-steak-frying-smokin'-good
smelling-grills and enjoyed every minute of it.
1998 Halloween Party & Costume
Display
Yes,
boys and girls, they hosted, along with WRHO, Hope Unlimited, BiGala+,
Chemistry Club and all those all-important volunteers, another Halloween
Dance Party. Wolfman and Charlie the "K" dressed as an asteroid and the
moon--go figure! Fortunatley no photographs were taken and by next year
little will be remembered of what went on that night.
1998 St.Valentines Day Dance
The Agora
Ballroom was filled with dancers and party folks on St. Valentines Day
evening, 1998. Everyone had a great time and there was more dancing than
we have ever had before. Oldies were played by the Blast from the Past
on-air personalities Charlie the "K" and the Wolfman (he's the one with
the beard.) Mocktails were served up by the HOPE Unlimited folks, and munchies
supplied by Student Services. Cosponsoring groups included Bigala-plus,
the Chemistry Club, Unlimited and WRHO. Many thanks to all who made the
dance a great success. (Dawn lead the team of decorators and cleaners.)
1998 Oneonta's First First Night
The Wolfman
and Charlie the "K" signed up to play Rock 'n' Roll music at Oneonta's
first First Night Celebration on New Years Eve
December 31, 1997. The City of Oneonta
planned a spectacular New Years Eve with all sorts of entertainment and
events. The Blasts from the Past people played oldies music from 6 to 11:30
p.m. in the former Rite Aid Drug store on Main Street. (Yeah! Downtown!)
Hundreds of people danced to the music and generally had a good time despite
the cold weather outside (it was 6 degrees on Main Street at 6 p.m. when
the parade went by.) You can find a photograph on our photos
page.
With
a little bit of help from our friends.
