Course Description: Students in the course will read science fiction novels and short stories of various genre and will review films that illustrate these genre. Themes of science fiction are varied and include conflict between social control and personal freedom, fear of people upsetting the balance of nature, fear of war, fear of the unknown, fear of human experimentation, the epic hero who must save society, consequences of the breakdown of social control, and warnings that society is making a mistake.
