From the workbench of a late Victorian artificer, pieces left over
after
the construction of a mechanism (scarcely larger than a small
clock and
very delicately made of glittering brass, ivory, and
rock crystal) apparently
designed to travel through time. The present whereabouts
of the machine
itself is unknown, and its creator is supposed to have disappeared
shortly
after its creation.
