Chronology: The Age of the Herding Camp at Peschanyi Dol 1
| Peschanyi Dol is a small tributary stream valley about 25km upriver from the Krasnsamarskoe settlement and on the opposite side of the Samara River. Several Srubnaya herding camps were discovered in this valley during the 1996 survey, and three of them were excavated in 2000. One of these, Peschanyi Dol (PD) 1, yielded animal bones dated to the same two periods as the KS settlement (one sample was about 1900-1800 calBC and two others about 1750 calBC). C14 Dates The herding camps were low-density occupations with high percentages of lithics and ceramics and little animal bone, unlike the KS settlement. They were buried beneath the surface about 15-30cm deep; nothing was visible on the surface. They were found by digging test pits at 15m intervals across level well-drained terraces near the tributary stream.
